GOLD EGYPTIAN AEGIS OF A LION-HEADED GODDESS

Late Period, Ca. 664 – 380 BC. An Egyptian gold aegis with a high-relief portrait of a lion-headed goddess, possibly Bastet. Back side connected with a modern gold double hook; restored. For similar see: Met Museum Accession Number: 89.2.597. Size: 25mm x 21mm; Weight: 2g Provenance: Property of a London gallery; previously in a collection of a North London gentleman; formerly in a collection of Mrs B. Ellison, a deceased former member of the Egyptian Exploration Fund, bought from the 1940s, Cairo and London.
