Description

RENAULT 4 TL In 1961, to replace its aging 4CV and compete with the Citroën 2CV, Renault used the same recipes as the latter, namely front-wheel drive and long-travel suspension with torsion bars. This was the first car with a wheelbase of different lengths on the left and right. For the Régie, front-wheel drive is a major first for a production car, apart from the Estafette, which is a utility vehicle. The adoption of a hatchback is also a major innovation for the manufacturer. Another unique feature in the automotive industry is the closed cooling circuit with expansion tank. Equipped with 3 or 4-speed mechanical gearboxes, the engines - initially 750 cm3, then 850 cm3 - are taken from the 4 CV and Dauphine models in the range. They were later joined by the Renault 8's 5-bearing, the famous 1108 cm3 Cléon Fonte. During its long career, which ended in 1992, more than 8,135,000 units were produced in many countries. Numerous special series marked the end of its existence. These included: La Savane, La Clan, La Jogging, etc... The orange TL presented for sale has an 850 cm3 engine and was put into service in March 1976. It has 78,100 km on the clock. Perfectly maintained and free from corrosion, it passed its technical inspection on May 31, 2021 as a veteran.
