A Fine Late 17th Century Ebony Veneered Table Timepiece signed Jasper Taylor, In Grais Inn, Circa 1695. The case having a caddy pediment surmounted by a cast gilt brass carrying handle, above side viewing windows, repeat cord and pierced sound frets, raised on a moulded stepped base with block feet. The back door with a Temple Newsam House Exhibition label. The 7 inch (17.5 cm) brass dial having a silvered chapter ring signed to the base and encircling a finely matted centre with calendar aperture and mock pendulum apertures, with winged cherub head spandrels. The five pillar single fusee movement with verge escapement, bob pendulum and pull quarter repeating on two bells, striking the hours on a further bell. The back-plate elaborately engraved with flowers and scrollwork, signed in an oval cartouche. 15¾'' (40 cm) in height over handle.
