Description

From the library of Chevalier Boudon de Saint-Amans PASUMOT (François) Voyages Physiques dans les Pyrénées en 1788 et 1789 - Histoire Naturelle d'une partie de ces Montagnes; particulièrement des Environs de Barège, Bagnères, Cauterès et Gavarnie avec des Cartes Géographiques. Paris, Le Clère, 1797 (An V). In-8: 2f., XXIV, 420pp, 2f. ; 3 folding maps out of text. Scattered spotting. Contemporary marbled basane, smooth spine with AS, fawn title-pieces, cold fillet framing the boards, filleted edges, red edges. A fine copy in an attractive contemporary binding. The third plate presents 2 subjects placed one on top of the other with a separating line: a map of the Barèges valley and a plan of the town. These 2 subjects are sometimes found in 2 plates. This is one of the "old" Pyrenees maps, not easy to find. The first 2 parts are essentially mineralogical, the third is a general overview of the Pyrenees and its productions, and the last is entirely picturesque, devoted to "travel": Vallée du Bastan, Pic du Midi ascent, Aïré peak and Lienz valley, Escoubous lake tour, Cauterets, Gavarnie, Bagnères. Provenance: From the library of Chevalier Boudon de Saint-Amans, with printed bookplate and his AS number gilded on the spine.
