In a protective slipcase. Jean Bodin's Six Livres de la République is a major work of political philosophy, considered to be the first reasoned theory of political power in modern times. Their success was immediate, and numerous reprints were published. Pirate edition of 1577 (Juge, Geneva), which follows the chapter order of the original 1576 edition (Du Puy, Paris - Privilège du Roy dated August 12, 1576 and established for ten years). After the St. Bartholomew's Day, faced with the collapse of the kingdom of France, Bodin proposed its reconstruction. He drew up the first complete and reasoned theory of modern political power, which still serves as a reference today for jurists and political philosophers.
