Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich (1754 - 1801) - a caviar bowl with the Russian double-headed eagle, circa 1776 Royal Prussian Porcelain Manufactory, circa 1778. White, glazed porcelain. Hand-painted double-headed eagle with the coat of arms of Russia and Holstein-Gottorp in the center of the dish, gilt rim (slightly rubbed). Blue underglazed sceptre mark on the base. Diameter 13.2 cm. Of exceptional quality. Rare. The caviar dish comes from the service presented by Frederick the Great to Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich of Russia (later Pavel I), as Frederick II acted as matchmaker for his distant relative, Princess Sophia Dorothea of Württemberg.
