A grandfather clock with chinoiserie laquer painting, William Spicer, London, circa 1800 Case made of black lacquered oak with finely painted decoration in gold lacquer. The door painted all over with gilded chinoiserie lacquer in relief (touched up in places). Glazed and lockable clock case with lateral columns and arched pediment. Brass case inside with open-worked tendril support. Silver-plated dial with Roman hour scale and Arabic minute scale (minute hand missing). Engraved maker's mark "Wm. Spicer London" at the bottom. Seconds display below the twelve, date display above the six. The striking mechanism stop in the upper area. Function of the movement not tested. With original key. Inside iron pendulum (not attached). Base with one crack. Height approx. 230 cm. Condition: II - III
