A bronze table bell depicting Orpheus and the animals, Pieter III van den Gheyn, dated 1569 Bronze, patinated. Relief depiction of Orpheus among the animals on the reverse. Lower rim inscribed in relief "PETRVS GHEINEVS ME FECIT 1569". Handle in the shape of a female figure dressed only in a cloth and holding two bouquets of flowers in her hands. Traces of age. Measures 16.5 x 8.7 cm. A similar bell dated "1571" can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. The van den Gheyn family founded a bronze foundry in Mechelen in 1506, which was active until the 20th century. Condition: II Keywords: Vanden Gheyn,
