Description

A pair of French polychrome enameled copper plaques for a purse, Limoges, 17th/18th century Copper, polychrome enameled. Possibly from the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Nouailher (1699 - 1775). Ovoid, slightly domed form. Each with a colorful enameled portrait in the center (probably of Duke Louis of Burgundy) framed by floral decoration. These plaques were used to decorate purses. There are two holes at the top through which a cord was passed to open the wallet. The edges have smaller holes. Topped with a wire-fastened bow made of gilded bronze. Both appliqués connected with a wire. Back with old label. Missing parts. Dimensions 7.6 x 5.5 cm and 8.7 x 6 cm (height with bow 10.5 cm and 11.5 cm). Condition: II - III Keywords: Plaque de bourse
