A German/Austrian portrait of Archduke Ferdinand II and his wife Philippine Welser from the Habsburg ancestral gallery, circa 1700 Oil on canvas. Finely painted shoulder pieces of the Austrian Archduke and his wife Philippine. Around Ferdinand's neck is a finely detailed lace collar and gold chain, while his wife wears a magnificent emerald necklace and jeweled headdress. Inscribed above her head "Philipina Welseria Ferdinandi archiducis Austriae & Tyrolis I conjux". Fine craquelure. In need of cleaning, thus good for improvement! Tiny flaking and holes in places. In as new profile frame of painted wood. Dimensions with frame 49.5 x 40.5 cm each. Condition: II -
