Bonaventura II Peeters (1648 - 1702)?, Harbor of Canea, Dutch, 2nd half of the 17th century Oil on canvas, relined. Calm harbor scene with a cloudy sky. In the foreground, merchants bring their goods to the shore, behind them a few more boats and a French ship arrive in the harbor. On the right, a few observers of harbor life gather at the foot of the lighthouse, while a tall church nave rises above the town on the left. Inscribed "Canea" in the lower margin, unsigned. Small flaw in the upper left half of the image, reminiscent of a bird. In a very finely stuccoed profile frame of gilded wood with rocailles (imperceptible losses in the gilding). Image dimensions 59 x 84.5 cm, dimensions framed 79 x 104 cm. Condition: I - II
