Description

A Gandhara stucco head, 5th - 6th century Finely worked head of the Buddha with dignified closed lips and half-opened eyelids. The hair is held in place by a circulating cloth decorated with hoops. The sideburns triangular and divided into broad strands. The attachment on top of the head is missing. Open at the back. Hollow work and the cavity filled with plaster in modern times. Slightly bumped. Height 17 cm, with base 27 cm. With thermoluminiscence test! Provenance: South German private collection. Previously collection Dr. W., Munich, acquired before 1980. Condition: II -
