Neoclassicistic marble torso modeled on an antique Artemis statue, ca. 1800 - early 19th century Below-life-sized marble torso, dressed in a chiton and a cloak draped over one shoulder. The chiton is belted on the upper body and falls downwards with a fine fold. Position in contrapposto with the body slightly bent in an S-shape and the right standing leg and the left free leg. Broken off above the knees. Arms and head missing. Probably deliberately designed as a torso. Similar statues of women in the shape of Artemis are known primarily from Roman times. Surface thoroughly cleaned. Recently mounted on a black stone base with a solid pin. High-quality sculptural work based on ancient models. Height ca. 83 cm (with base 100 cm), width ca. 52 cm, depth ca. 30 cm. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. H. Lanz, Munich. Acquired in the 1980s from a French private collection in Antibes.
