Description
Prince Alfons of Bavaria - an Iron Cross 1st Class Silver, blackened iron core. Domed example with maker's monogram "K.A.G." on the pin. Inventoried in the Order Register under "51/II - Prussia - Iron Cross - black, silver edged - presented by the Emperor himself". This Iron Cross 1st Class was also a gift from the Emperor from Doorn, accompanied by a handwritten letter card from the Emperor with a view of the orangery of Doorn House, dated "5.I.24": "...How pleased I am that you like to wear the EKI, an award from a great time that we experienced together. May a new era soon blossom for us to work together for the Fatherland". Also the letter of transmittal for the EK dated 15.4.1924 (missing parts), inscribed by the Emperor himself in copier pen "Prinz Alfons von Bayern - München - EKI", with the seal used in Doorn on the reverse.
