Gerlinde Beck (1930 Stuttgart-Cannstatt - 2006 Mühlacker-Großglattbach) Stele Steel, curved and blackened; granite base. Abstract, tall stele, probably created between 1963 and 1965, characteristic of Beck's oeuvre, with a conglomerate of different cuboid and rectangular bar shapes. The sculptor, known for her numerous works in public spaces, studied at the Academy in Stuttgart from 1949-1956 under Karl Hils, Peter Otto Heim, Gerhard Gollwitzer and Willi Baumeister. She also completed an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker in 1955, which helped her to master metal for her sculptures. In 1955/56, Beck traveled to Paris and exhibited at the Salon "Les Surindépendants", which earned her critical acclaim, but also expulsion from the academy. In 1962 she had her first solo exhibition at the Galerie Parnass in Wuppertal-Elberfeld, in the same year she won second prize at the 3rd Grand Prix International de Sculpture in Monaco, followed by the Böttcherstraße Art Prize in Bremen in 1967 and the title of professor in 1989. Overall height 170 cm. Blackened steel sculpture on granite base.
