François Pompon (1855 Saulieu - 1933 Paris) after Polar bear Bronze, dark patina. Posthumous, contemporary cast, early 21st century; depiction of a bear striding to the right. Stylized bronze sculpture in a modern manner after Pompon's famous marble sculpture "Ours blanc", which is considered his most accomplished work and with which he achieved his breakthrough at the Paris Salon in 1922 - examples of which can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Pompon worked in the studio of Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, after 1905 he devoted himself exclusively to the depiction of animals. H. 45 cm; l. approx. 85 cm.
