Description

South German or Alpine carver (active around 1800) Pair of candlestick angels Counterparts. Limewood, carved and painted. Painting partially gone over. Fully sculpted depiction. Octagonal, curved, raised, profiled base; youthful angels standing on a cloud-like plinth in a dynamic pose with a long cloth cape draped from one shoulder over their loins, each holding a spirally twisted horn of plenty as the shaft of the candelabrum with both hands on the left and right sides respectively. H. 54 cm. South German or Alpine sculptor active circa 1800. A pair of carved, polychrome painted and gilt limewood angel sculptures as candleholders. Polychromy partially overpainted.
