Johann Heinrich Beck (1788 Dessau - 1875 ibid.) Nude study of two young men in a standing and kneeling pose Classicist drawing by Beck, executed around 1814, with subtle sculptural body modeling in the tradition of Anton Raphael Mengs (1728 - 1779). Beck studied under Ferdinand Hartmann at the Academy in Dresden from 1806, where he probably also became acquainted with Mengs' works and his sculpture collection as a source of inspiration. Beck returned to Dessau in 1817/18, where he became a court painter and later a member of the Berlin Academy. Black and white chalk/ laid paper. Sheet approx. 47 cm x 36.5 cm.
