Gudmund Herman Peter Hentze (1875 Næstved - 1948 Frederiksberg) "Eros". Original title The ancient deity in the form of a youth stands out clearly and rich in contrast against the strong, azure background. Hentze's depiction, created in 1901 during his time in Italy, is symbolist in its fine brushstrokes and reveals the influence of the early Renaissance - especially Sandro Botticelli - in its clear lines and strong, contrasting colors. Tempera/cardboard on wooden panel. Signed lower left with location "Roma" and dat. 1901; Signed and titled on a label verso and inscribed in pencil on the frame; Approx. 30 cm x 32.5 cm.
