Exceptional Meissen crinoline group "Lady and Cavalier with Ribbon of the Polish Order of the White Eagle A distinguished cavalier in a red skirt over a pale yellow vest patterned with Indian flowers and a white shirt, wearing black knee breeches and buckled shoes, standing on an oval base decorated with sculpted flowers and tendrils. He wears a broad sash over his right shoulder and the star of the Polish Order of the White Eagle on his chest, half concealed. He has his trident tucked under his arm. In his left hand he holds a snuffbox with a merchant's ice cream scene in purple camaieu. In his right hand he carries a noblewoman in a splendid purple crinoline dress, richly decorated with golden flowering branches and a broad gold border decorated with foliage and ribbons. Wearing a chain with a cross pendant around her neck. The finely streaked hair is covered by a white cap. Probably the depiction of August III, King of Poland with his wife Maria Josepha of Austria (cf. Lepke's). Extremely fine, polychrome painting "en détail" with rich gold decoration. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler, June 1744; rest; h. 22 cm. 30 cm x 18 cm. Kaendler's taxa reads as follows: "1. Grouppgen, a cavalier with a star on his chest and the Pohlnischer (Polish) Order attached, also holding a tabattiere, but holding a puce lady in his hand." Cf.
