Qur'an Juz' XXVI (حم ) China, 19th century or earlier, Arabic manuscript on paper, 52ff., 2 fl., with 5ll. of bold black sini script to the page, the double-page opening with 3ll. of the same within thin black margins, framed by bands of spiraling straps highlighted in red and green, the head board with intersecting half-circles flanked by peonies, the lower panel with tessellated with an iteration of a slanted design forming a lattice dotted in red, the closing double page similarly laid out, the lower panel with a lobed cartouche containing a flower issuing trefoils flanked with simplified cloud motifs, lobed rosette verse markers, surah headings in black script on gold ground, within red thin double rules, with stained red leather binding worked with medallions, calligraphy, geometric and vegetal patterns 25.8 x 19.8cm.
