Qur'an Juz' XVII (ٱقْتَرَبَ لِلْنَّاسِ), China, 19th century or earlier, Arabic manuscript on paper, 54ff., 1 fl., with 5ll. of bold black sini script to the page, the double-page opening with 3ll. of the same within thin black margins, framed by bands of gold tendrils against a black field, the head board with a calligraphic lobed medallions flanked by floral sprays and leaves against a green and a blue ground, the lower panel with tessellated with an iteration of simplified quatrefoils against similar ground, the closing double page similarly laid out, the headboard divided in three square panel, one calligraphic on white foliated script, the two others with large flowers and leaves on a blue and a green ground, the bands with floral tendrils on yellow field, the lower panels with large gold flower blooms on simplified leafy designs against a pink and a blue field, lobed rosette verse markers, surah headings in red script on plain ground, within red thin double rules, some catchwords in modern blue ink, the lower cover and flap lacking, the closing double page, loose folio 30 x 20.5cm.
