Pál, Fried - 1893 Budapest - 1976 New York, Hungarian artist, he received his artistic training at the Hungarian Academy of Arts, where he was a student of Hugo Pohl, who became one of his greatest influences, under Pohl's direction he produced numerous portraits of female nudes and orientalist works, later he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian, where he was a student of Claude Monet and Lucien Simone. In Paris, he was strongly influenced by the French Impressionists, in particular Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas, which inspired him to create numerous paintings of ballerinas, dancers and circus performers. Fried emigrated to the USA in 1946 after the Second World War, where he taught at the New York Academy of Art and produced portraits of American celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe. "Audrey", oil/canvas, street scene in Paris, in the foreground a fashionably dressed young woman with black hair, the sitter is reminiscent of great acting icons such as Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor in her younger years, she is dressed in the current fashion of her time and wears a striking yellow dress, over it a green, poncho-like jacket, in the background a busy boulevard with many people and cafés, signed lower left, inscribed 'Audrey' and numbered 353/5 on the reverse, good condition, approx. 64x75cm, frame bumped, approx. 77x96cm
