Ivo Hauptmann (1886 Erkner near Berlin - 1973 Hamburg) Swiss village view Idyllic village view under a summer sky, sketched in a quick, loose style, probably painted in Oberägeri in Henry van de Velde's garden. Hauptmann, the eldest son of the writer Gerhart Hauptman, studied with Lovis Corinth in Berlin in 1903/04, studied with Hans Olde and Ludwig von Hofmann at the Weimar School of Art from 1904-1908/09 and at the Académie Ranson in Paris from 1909-1912. Based in Hamburg from the 1920s, he has been one of the most influential artists and protagonists of modernism there ever since. Watercolor and charcoal pencil/paper.
