Oppler, co-founder of the Berlin Secession in 1898, devoted himself not only to portraits but also to depictions of music, dance and ballet with great passion. Apparently Oppler did not only admire the composer and conductor Richard Strauss in 1928. As early as 1914, Oppler drew at the invitation of Harry Graf Kessler during rehearsals for the premiere of Richard Strauss' ballet "Josephslegende" in Paris; a portrait etching is also documented.
