Ernst Oppler (1867 Hanover - 1929 Berlin) "Richard Strauss conducts at the Dresden Opera". Original title Impressionistic study for Oppler's painting of the same name (illustration in "Velhagen & Klasings Monatshefte", 43rd year 1928/29). View over orchestra musicians in back view of the standing, conducting Richard Strauss in profile. Oppler, co-founder of the Berlin Secession in 1898, devoted himself not only to portraits but also to depictions of music, dance and ballet with great passion. Apparently Oppler did not only admire the composer and conductor Richard Strauss in 1928. As early as 1914, Oppler drew at the invitation of Harry Graf Kessler during rehearsals for the premiere of Richard Strauss' ballet "Josephslegende" in Paris; a portrait etching is also documented.
