Jean Cocteau (1889 Maisons-Laffitte near Paris - 1963 Milly-la-Forêt near Paris) Portrait of the Russian dancer and choreographer Léonide Massine On May 18, 1917, the ballet "Parade - Ballet réaliste", based on a theme by Jean Cocteau, premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and caused a sensation. This extraordinary, multimedia dance theater was the first time that numerous personalities from the international and Parisian avant-garde worked together collectively, including the music by Erik Satie, Pablo Picasso designed the costumes, curtain and stage set and the choreography was developed by Léonide Massine (actually Leonid Fjodorowitsch Mjasin).
