Christian Rohlfs (1849 Niendorf - 1938 Hagen) Collection of three drawings and watercolors for the children of Karl Ernst Osthaus The works were created at the beginning of the 20th century in Hagen, where the artist had lived and worked since 1901 at the invitation of his patron. Rohlfs was almost a member of the Osthaus family, he told the five children (Eberhard, Waldemar, Manfred, Helga and Immogen) fairy tales and stories and spontaneously created pictures for them on found, different paper. These sheets are executed in pencil and watercolor. There is a strutting woman with a basket (on the inside of an envelope addressed to Rohlfs, stamp with Weimar postmark dated 30.05.1906), a standing child and a double-page work with a frog and a caricature of a rich gentleman as a frog (a transverse tear in the lower third up to half of the sheet). 17.3 cm-18 cm x 11.2 cm-18.3 cm. Provenance. Karl Ernst Osthaus Collection (1874 - 1921), Hagen; Eberhard Osthaus Collection, Worpswede; subsequently in family possession of the heirs. A collection of three drawings and watercolors.
