Christian Rohlfs (1849 Niendorf - 1938 Hagen) Collection of three drawings and watercolors for the children of Karl Ernst Osthaus The works were created at the beginning of the 20th century in Hagen, where the artist had lived and worked since 1901 at the invitation of his patron. Rohlfs was almost a member of the Osthaus family; he had a particularly close, loving relationship with the five children (Eberhard, Waldemar, Manfred, Helga and Immogen) and spontaneously produced pictures for them on found, different types of paper. These sheets are executed in watercolors and charcoal or black chalk. Present are: King with insignia of power (on the back of an envelope, addressed to "Frau F. Osthaus Wohlgeb. Museum Hagen Westfalen", stamp with postmark dated 28.01.1907); double-page caricature of two men arguing and turning away (on cardboard); back study of a reclining animal (on letterhead with three original fold marks). 14 cm-25.5 x 16.3 cm-25 cm. Provenance: Karl Ernst Osthaus Collection (1874 - 1921), Hagen; Eberhard Osthaus Collection, Worpswede; subsequently in family possession of the heirs.
