Peter Ilsted (1861 Sakskøbing - 1933 Copenhagen) Interior Characteristic interior scene painted with effective lighting and a relaxed style by Ilsted, who, alongside his brother-in-law Vilhelm Hammershøi, Carl Holsøe and the Skagen painters (Peder Severin Krøyer, Anna and Michael Ancher), is considered one of the leading Danish artists at the beginning of the 20th century. Trained at the Copenhagen Academy, he undertook numerous study trips and specialized in interior and genre scenes in his paintings, which are characterized by their subtle use of colour and post-impressionist style. Ilsted was a member of the artists' association "Den Frie Udstilling". Oil on canvas; inscribed or signed and dated on verso. "Peter Ilsted (18)98" and several handwritten inscriptions in varying hands verso; 48.5 cm x 36.5 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas. Signed or inscribed and dated (18)98 on the reverse.
