Pieter (Peter) Casteels III (1684 Antwerp - 1749 Richmond) Circumference Still life of flowers with a King Charles spaniel An opulent bouquet of various spring and summer flowers arranged in a gleaming golden vessel, with the small dog sitting on a cushion next to it. The motif and style of the painting show obvious references to well-known works by the important Flemish painter, who first lived and worked in England in 1708-1712 and became a permanent resident in 1717. There he became a sought-after painter among the aristocracy, who also awarded him numerous commissions. He preferred to paint floral pieces and birds, and in several works he composed a spaniel characteristic of England. Oil on canvas, double; 74 cm x 100 cm. Frame.
