Jan Frans van Son (1658 Antwerp - 1701 London) Still life of flowers with insects A fragrant, finely painted still life arranged on a stone panel, a bouquet of various spring and summer flowers (chequerboard flowers, tulips, lilies and roses) set in a vase with a gilded foot, enlivened by a small butterfly and a cockchafer. Jan Frans van Son received his artistic training in Antwerp from his father, Joris van Son, who also specialized in still lifes of flowers and fruit, and from Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Elder. After the death of his father, the artist went to London in 1678, where he continued the tradition of Flemish still life painting. Works by the artist can be found in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, among others. Oil on canvas, doubled; Signed to the edge of the table; Verso old adhesive label with excerpt from a collection or auction catalog. 53 cm x 40.5 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas, relined. Signed.
