Pair of Rococo mirror appliqués made of "Ludwigsluster Carton" relief sculptured layered papier-mâché, gilded on a wooden base. Rectangular, profiled mirror frame, with a protruding pediment of a central star motif and foliage. Corresponding lower end with 2-light brass girandole element. 83 cm x 39 cm. From the mid-18th century, the Ludwigslust manufactory became a center of papier-mâché production. Its most important client was Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg-Schwerin, who had parts of Ludwigslust Castle decorated with "Ludwigsluster Carton". Provenance: from the liquidation of an important North German private collection. A North German Baroque gilt paper mache mirror by the Ludwigsluster Carton-Fabrique. Mecklenburg.
