Description

Large Empire bronze figure pendulum, fire-gilt and partly dark patinated. Rectangular, architecturally structured clock case, flanked by fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals, on a stepped, rising base with broad tongue and palmette frieze on pressed feet. Profile-framed, white enamel dial, inscribed L'echopie Jne à Paris. Above a narrow profiled cornice and fully sculpted, figural crowning of a young woman reading. Pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell. H. 54 cm. Cf. Tardy, p. 357. A French gilt and partly patinated bronze Empire mantel clock. Strikes half hour on a bell. France.
