Jewelry box in papier-mâché, painted black. Rectangular body. The hinged lid with an inset depiction of the Crystal Palace, built in 1851 for the first Great Exhibition in London, with figural staffage in so-called églomisé technique. The rim surrounded by a gold, red and blue decorative band. The inside of the lid mirrored. Minimally chipped; h. 4 cm. 17.3 cm x 10.7 cm. A probably English paper-mache tobacco box. Minor flaws. Probably England. 1st half of the 20th century.
