Description

Sebastiano Conca (workshop of) (Gaeta 1680-Naples 1764) Deposition from the cross oil on copper 35.5x28.5 cm - with frame 46x39 cm The diaphanous and now bloodless body of Jesus Christ delicately supported by the Madonna, completely dressed in blue, recalls an ancient statue. The attribution to the circle of Sebastiano Conca, a painter from Gaeta who found fortune in eighteenth-century Rome, is confirmed by comparison with works painted by the master, in particular the version preserved in the Vatican Art Gallery.
