Jan Vitezlav Dusek (1891 Makov/Jistebnice - 1966 Tábor) "Sokol-Athlete". Original title Bronze, dark patina. Signed and dated. 1924 with location Tabor. Stamp "FDANTA ANYZ" of the foundry Franta Anýz, Prague. Historically significant, fully sculpted depiction of an athlete as a half nude, climbing the top step of a high, cubic pedestal with arms raised in victory. Dusek was inspired by the 1924 "Sokol" sports meeting in Tábor, where he had set up a studio in 1922. In 1926, a copy of the bronze was exhibited at the XV Venice Biennale. Dusek studied at the academies in Prague and Vienna, and in the early 1920s with Antoine Bourdelle in Paris, before returning to Prague in 1924. In the same year, he won a bronze medal at the art competition of the Olympic Games in Paris for his "Archer" and a silver medal at the Salon in Paris in 1925 for his sculpture "The Runner". H. 104 cm. Dark brown patinated bronze. Signed and dated 1924 with location Tabor. Stamp by the foundry of Franta Anýz, Prague.
