Samuel Lipchytz (Lipszyc) (1880 Pabianitz - 1943 Auschwitz) Dancer with tambourine Chryselephantine figure in patinated or cold-patinated bronze and carved ivory. Signed; lime green onyx or chalcedony plinth. A young dancer seated on the floor in a graceful pose with her arms stretched up to the sides or diagonally, her head with a fashionable 1920s "bob" hairstyle, her dance costume with a bustier revealing her belly. Charming Art Déco sculpture by the well-known Polish-French sculptor, who went to Paris to study in 1900 and quickly became one of the leading artists of chryselephantine figures. During the Art Deco period, Lipchytz, who, like his fellow sculptor Demétre Chiparus, specialized in female dancers, exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1918 to 1935.
