Description
Magnificent silver tureen as a prize of honor. Oval, domed stand, merging into a strongly indented, short shaft. Bulbous, sweeping body decorated all around with a leaf frieze in relief. The engraved dedication inscription "To the owner of the winner of the Neuss hunting race, Neuss July 26, 1914." on the smooth, recessed shoulder. Domed lid with a large pommel in the shape of a pine cone in full relief, surrounded by a narrow acanthus leaf and tongue frieze. Handles edged at the sides, rounded at the bottom and ending in fanned-out volutes. Shoulder, body rim, shaft and stand decorated with a laurel leaf wreath in relief. Gilt interior. Marked 800, maker's mark. Weight approx. 2950 g. H. 37.5 cm. 50 cm x 32 cm. A large splendid German silver honorary prize for the winner of the Neuss Hunt Race in 1914.
