Head of Medusa by Carl ("Carlo") Kornhaas Relief sculptured ceramic (earthenware) tondo with colored painting and lustre glazes. Unique piece, shown in 1897 at the VII. International Art Exhibition in Munich. Original frame, label of the art exhibition in Munich 1897 with handwritten inscription, description and signature. Relief d. approx. 31.5 cm; frame approx. 46 cm x 46 cm. Kornhaas (1857 - 1931) lived and worked in Italy 1880/81-1895. In 1895 Kornhaas became a teacher at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Karlsruhe, where he led a ceramics department and modeling class, 1898-1922 as professor. He participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, specializing in lustre glazes. Cited in: "Official catalog of the VII. Internationale Kunstausstellung im Kgl.
