Viggo Langer, On the beach at Rågeleje View over the wide beach of the present-day seaside resort and former fishing village of Rågeleje on the Danish north coast of Zealand at dawn, low impasto, impressionistic landscape painting, Weilbach comments: "... Viggo Langer painted landscapes and village settings that show the influence of artists of the Golden Age, especially Vilhelm Kyhn and Johan Thomas Lundbye. Like them, he mainly depicted the landscape of Zealand, but with a stronger focus on colour and light. Artist information: actually Viggo Olaf Peter Hansen, called himself Viggo Langer or Länger after his mother's maiden name from 1885 onwards, German-Danish landscape painter, illustrator.Danish landscape painter, illustrator and opera singer (1860 Leipzig-Reudnitz/Schönefeld to 1942 Rungsted), son of the Danish xylographer Hans Peter Hansen, from 1863 back in Copenhagen, from 1876 trained as a painter and draughtsman at the Technical College, 1877-86 studied at the Copenhagen Academy, pupil of Vilhelm Kyhn, Sigurd Konstantin-Hansen and Carl Heinrich Bloch, organised exhibitions from 1881, 1887-90 active in Lellinge, Danish citizen from 1892, study trip to Paris in 1893 with scholarships from the Exhibition Fund and the Råben-Levetzauske Fund, undertook various study trips, such as the first of several trips to Italy and Sicily in 1886, study trip to the Balkans and the Caucasus in 1911, to Värmland in 1920 and to Menton in 1933, member of the artists' group "Dyrehavens Malere [engl.Tiergartenmaler]", at times illustrator for the magazines "Ude og Hjemme" and "Illustreret Tidende" and in the 1890s worked as an opera singer at the Royal Theatre and the Dagmarteatret in Copenhagen, lived in Frederiksberg and Søllerød, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon" and Weilbach.
