Game case for chess and probably a checkers, West Africa, probably Burkina Faso, 20th century, ,suede cover with burnt-in traditional African patterns, masks and figures, inside: body with 8 vertical and 4 horizontal compartments, the upper compartments containing two rolled suede playing surfaces with chessboard pattern and ornamental decoration, the middle compartments containing 32 cast chess pieces (16 bronzed, 16 polished gold), the two lower compartments containing 40 rectangular pieces (probably for a checkers) with relief decoration (20 bronzed, 20 polished gold), complete, case dimensions when opened L: 95.5 cm, when closed 37 x 47.5 x 8 cm.
