Description

GENERAL DE GAULLE, Autograph facsimile letter, April 26, 1951 Letter from the General to one of his political "companions" on the subject of the April 1951 legislative elections. In this letter, Charles de Gaulle expresses his hopes for the upcoming elections. He also mentions the "national card", introduced by the Rassemblement du Peuple Français (RPF) to enable French citizens to express their views directly to the party leadership. The card was sent directly to Colombey-Les-Deux-Églises. "My dear Companion, In the great struggle we are waging together for France, we are on the eve of the decisive occasion. Everything will depend on the response that the country will soon give, through its votes, to our Rassemblement. At the moment of the greatest effort, it's my companions - it's you - that I need most of all. I need your help! In a few days' time, I'll be launching a kind of campaign among all the French people, with the aim of obtaining the active, moral and material support of as many of them as possible for the next elections and beyond. One way of doing this will be offered to them. It's the "national card", specially edited and distributed by our own organization. I'll be asking French men and women to buy it and send it to me en masse, with their endorsements or suggestions as to the essential adjectives I intend to achieve in power. This direct link, established in this way with many of our compatriots, can and must have its value, particularly for myself. I wish, my companion, to warn you of this undertaking, in advance and personally. This is to tell you that I am counting firmly on you to be a champion of success wherever you find yourself and to whatever extent you can act. In all respects, you feel it, we need a triumphant result. Please accept, my dear companion, my warmest regards. C. de Gaulle " A set of books is enclosed: L. NACHIN, Charles de Gaulle Général de France, 1944 La vie extraordinaire du Général de Gaulle, 1978 La France à travers de Gaulle à travers la caricature internationale, 1969 SHIPLEY WHITE, Les origines de la discorde, de Gaulle, la France Libre et les Alliés, 1966 BOSC, Si de Gaulle était petit, 1968 (cover accident) HAROLD, Le Général illustré, 1968 (accident on cover) (Lot sold as is)
