Description

This is an early example of an Ottoman Empire karabela-type sword. The blade is slightly curved with a pronounced T-spine and yalman at the tip. The hilt is of characteristic form which resembles a bird. The grip scales are of a dark horn. The crossguard and scabbard mounts are of engraved silver. Ottoman Empire, 17th cen. Dimensions: L: 35 in., (89 cm.) The blade appears to be in its original condition, minor damage to the silver mounts, scabbard has been restored.
