"François LAMENNAIS - Words of a believer Printed for Charles Meunier in Paris, 1908 - A splendid copy of this magnificent publication by the art bookbinder Charles Meunier. One of 16 first copies in an IMPORTANT full morocco BINDING with boards decorated with two inlaid and tinted incised leathers by Charles Meunier, this one on tinted vellum. In matching burgundy morocco-backed chemise and matching bordered slipcase. EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION for this specimen of incised leather, here thematically decorated with the cross and serpent of temptation surrounded by passionflowers on the first board, topped by the dove of the Holy Spirit. The spine of the binding is also decorated with a mosaic of passionflowers. On the lower cover, a dove with the Holy Trinity in the background, personalized with the Ex-Libris initials E. B. made by the bookbinder for the subscriber for whom the book was specially printed: Ernest Breckenridge. Contreplats with border in the same morocco, triple bands of morocco in two shades and double gilded fillets, angular cross pastilles, endpapers lined with burgundy moiré paper. A well FULFILLED copy with the following special features: - ORIGINAL DRAWING SIGNED BY CARLOS SCHWABE, dated 1909, depicting an elegant, partly nude female figure. - A separate suite of all etchings printed before the letter. - A suite of 42 unused floral frames and a state of all the culs-de-lampe contained in the book.
