Éloi BÉRAL. [Paleontology]. Important lot of fossil drawings including: -3 notebooks, in-8 oblong, containing numerous fossil drawings by Eloi Béral. One is dated and signed: "Constantinople, 22 7bre 1869. E. Béral, ingénieur au corps impérial des mines de France en mission auprès du gouvernement ottoman". Fossil drawings (ink with watercolor highlights) made on tracing paper and mounted on paper. Numerous drawings per plate, all captioned. 1st notebook titled: "Devonian fossils from the left bank of the Bosphorus - Kanlidja; Tchauch-Bachi; Tchibouklez (1 to 800). Mont Gean (801 to 876)". 2nd notebook: "Devonian fossils from the right bank of the Bosphorus - Arnaout-Kerri, Kourou-Tchermé, Bebek, Balta-Liman (801 to 850) and (901 to 979) - Roumeli-Hissar (877 to 890)". 3rd notebook: "Devonian fossils from the shores of the Sea of Marmara at Kartal and Pandyk, comprising nos. 980 to 1190" (only the latter is signed). -19 plates of drawings by Éloi Béral (ink, wash and watercolor), [1869]. Executed on heavy paper (except one on tracing paper). 25.5 x 20 cm. Superb suite of plates containing drawings of 113 finely executed fossils discovered in Turkey. The place of discovery is indicated in pencil (Kartal, Kanlidja, Sténia, etc.).
