Description

"Alfred de Musset - La Nuit Vénitienne Devambez, Paris, 1929 - A very fine copy of this superb edition, illustrated with fifteen original color etchings by Jean-Gabriel Domergue, perfectly rendering the enchanting atmosphere of Venice, in a pure Art Deco style. Musset's text on the fickleness of love and of human beings tormented by desire is particularly poignant, given that Musset himself experienced his most devastating idyll in Venice with George Sand a few years after the publication of his Nuit Vénitienne. Original 3/4 morocco binding by J.M. Durand, smooth spine and gilt head, wave decoration in a different shade of morocco crosses the binding, blending with the very elegant marbled paper covering part of the boards, gilt "Fata Libelli" label, perhaps the binding featured in one of the exhibitions organized by the eponymous bookshop. Excellent condition, with minor scratches. In matching bordered slipcase. In-4, (17) 65pp.
