Description

Manuscrit - LEBEY (André).

Ennoïa. Original manuscript of 18 pages (title + 17 numbered pages), in-4, laminated in a bradel-bound album, marbled paper cover, muted spine (top cap torn off). Text signed by André Lebey, who indicates that it was written from May 20 to 23, 1895 and from September 25 to 27, 1896, with numerous erasures, corrections, additions and deletions. Poet, historian and essayist André Lebey (1877-1938) published over forty works. This text appeared in Le Centaure: recueil trimestriel de littérature et d'Art. Paris 1896, tome I and II; symbolist journal founded by André Gide, Pierre Louÿs, Paul Valéry, Jean de Tinan, André Lebey, André-Ferdinand Hérold, Henri de Régnier and Henry Albert. These two issues were the only ones published. André Lebey was only 18-19 at the time, and was already contributing to La Plume; his Ennoïa is dedicated "to Ferdinand Hérold". Later, in 1909, André Lebey became a famous Freemason (Victor Hugo Lodge; Vice President of the Order's Council from 1913 to 1919, Grand Orateur of the Collège des Rites), joined socialism and was editor-in-chief of the Revue Socialiste from 1910 to 1914, then became a member of parliament. A fine testimony to his early literary endeavors.
