In-8, green half-chagrin, ornate ribbed spine, green chagrined percaline boards framed with double gilt fillet, gilt edges (period binding). Frontispiece and illustrations engraved in the text. A few small brown spots. A very fine copy.

Viardot, illustrated by Meissonier. Paris, J.-J. Dubochet, Le Chevalier et Cie, 1846. In-4, LV-630 pp, brown half-maroquin with corners, false ribbed spine, gilt head. First printing of vignettes by MEISSONIER (for Lazarille) and some forty new vignettes by Jean GIGOUX, to complement the 600 or so vignettes in the editions he illustrated previously. All compositions are wood-engraved. A fine copy of this edition, particularly sought-after for Meissonier's finely engraved drawings (Brivois, 259 - Vicaire, V, 243 - Carteret, III, 386).
