"L'Assemblée Nationale, pénétrée de ce que la nation françoise doit à la mémoire de J.J. Rousseau", decrees the erection of a "statue bearing this inscription: LA NATION FRANÇOISE LIBRE, A J.J. ROUSSEAU. On the pedestal will be engraved the motto: Vitam impendere vero"... - DÉCRET de la Convention Nationale [...] Relatif à l'Erection d'une Statue de Jean-Jacques Rousseau en bronze, 15 brumaire II (November 5, 1793; 2pp. in-4, Impr. Nationale Exécutive du Louvre). It is decreed that the Minister of the Interior will promptly erect "in one of the public squares of Paris, a bronze statue of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, & have it established in place of one of those of the former tyrants of France, overthrown by the people on August 10th".
