Puynesge, 1786. 2 volumes, large in-8, first edition of this compilation of extracts from the regitre of the Conseil souverain, now no longer extant. A very rare and interesting work providing a true panorama of life in Martinique at the end of the Ancien Régime. In particular, it deals with the regulation of trades, religion and the judiciary on the island, as well as the many regulations concerning slavery and the sugar industry. Later binding in half-brown calf, smooth spine decorated with gilded friezes and faux-nerfs, the caissons decorated in cold. Handwritten bookplate.
